Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday, July 05, 2009.
Active weather will persist over Japan on Sunday as another low pressure system moves in from the west. A system over southeastern China will advect over the East China Sea and push towards western Japan throughout the day. This will obtain abundant moisture from the Sea and trigger coastal showers over the region, while a lingering trough will continue producing wet weather over eastern Japan. Thus, Tokyo will see overcast skies with periods of heavy rainfall associated with thunderstorms development and highs near 80(F)/ 26(C).
Meanwhile to the north, a trough will move through northeastern China, kicking up scattered showers that will extend over the Korean Peninsula. Beijing will see light and scattered showers with highs in the mid-90s(F)/ mid-30s(C). To the south, expect widespread scattered showers to persist as a trough of low pressure hovers over the region. This will pull much moisture onshore from the South China Sea and will allow for periods of heavy rain and strong thunderstorms to develop. Hong Kong will see another day of scattered storms with highs in the mid-80s(F)/ upper 20s(C). Expect wet weather with warm and humid conditions to persist over Indochina and the Pacific Islands.
In Australia, a low pressure system will approach Western Australia from the Indian Ocean and push a strong frontal boundary onshore. This will produce wet weather over the west, while also pushing the dominating high pressure system eastward. Thus, expect warm and dry weather over the rest of the continent, with mostly sunny skies anticipated in Sydney and highs remaining in the mid-60s(F)/ upper teens(C).

Did you know that...
On the first Independence Day (July 4, 1776), Thomas Jefferson bought his very first thermometer before signing the Declaration of Independence. Apparently, it was 76 degrees and cloudy. Also, on this date in 1956, a world record was set when Unionville, Maryland received 1.23 inches of rain...in one minute.
